【 Warne Marion Marsh 】
1927年10月26日米国ロサンゼルス生まれの白人テナー・サックス奏者。母親はサイレント映画音楽のバイオリン奏者、父親はアカデミー名誉賞を受賞したMGMスタジオの映画撮影技師。趣味はチェス。15歳でハリウッドの軍人向けダンスホール専属の少年バンドの一員としてプロ活動を始め、17歳にホーギー・カーマイケルのラジオ番組の専属バンドに所属。1946年に徴兵され、ニュージャージー州への赴任をきっかけにニューヨークのジャズシーンを体験し、レニー・トリスターノにも接触。除隊後1948年にバディ・リッチ楽団のツアーへ参加。同年の退団後、ニューヨークで本格的にトリスターノに師事。いわゆるトリスターノ派を代表する奏者の一人となる。1955年にいったん故郷のロサンゼルスに戻り、以降西海岸と東海岸を行き来しながら演奏活動を続ける。1972年〜77年は「スーパー・サックス」のグループの一翼を担い、1970年代半ば以降はヨーロッパまで活動の幅を広げる。1987年12月17日、北ハリウッドのジャズクラブ「Donte’s」でのライブ演奏中に倒れ、心臓病で死去。
